Global Public Affairs

Health care continues to be the top issue for most Canadians who want assurances from political leaders that they will have access to quality health care when they need it. Health care officials and politicians across the country are challenged by the sustainability problem: how to pay for quality universal health care when costs are rising, and other social programs also need funding.

Governments are therefore challenged to provide the policy and regulatory environments in which public health care is delivered given finite resources and pressures on all fronts of the health care system to improve service. Increasingly, the private sector is being seen as a partner in policy development, but this requires a fine balance between public and private interest and participation that is clear, transparent and accountable.

Given the multi-jurisdictional nature of health policy and innovation across Canada, Global's Health & Life Sciences practice regularly draws upon our network of consultants across Canada to provide a federal, national or province-specific suite of services. The Health & Life Sciences team monitors, advocates, and provides strategic and tactical advice on the following issues:

  • Regulatory issues, including the health product approval process and Food and Drugs Act modernization
  • Public and private pricing and reimbursement policies and trends
  • Intellectual property issues
  • Federal/Provincial/Territorial initiatives, including the Canadian Agency for Drugs and Technologies in Health (CADTH) and Common Drug Review (CDR)
  • Industrial incentive policy and marketing practice regulations
  • Political and legislative initiatives

Global's Health & Life Sciences practice serves international innovative pharmaceutical companies, medical device manufacturers, health associations, non-profit health organizations and health care product manufacturers.

BestLifeRewards

BestLifeRewarded® was developed to address gaps with current adherence programs. We look at patients' total health and put patients in control - they choose the experience and support they need to make healthy changes and ultimately, their outcomes. Health-based reward incentives allow us to engage patients immediately and keep them connected over time. The program is universal, i.e. it is not tied to any particular pharmacy chain, company or brand. It leverages best-practices in consumer marketing to offer true value to all healthcare stakeholders.

The program is the first of its kind to take into account a person's overall health, including nutrition, physical activity, being tobacco-free, adherence to medications, mental health support, health-related counselling, and much more. Created by Cookson James Loyalty Inc., BestLifeRewarded® provides health product organizations with a vehicle to improve people's overall outcomes through health-related reward incentives. Reward points are given to program members based on their healthy activities, commitment to learning about their condition, participation in health surveys and sharing their success stories with others. Reward points can then be redeemed for health-related products. Members can also choose to donate their rewards to one of several charitable organizations focused on healthcare.
