 MORNING: Patient Flow

Patient flow or system dynamics forecasting is a common approach for modelling situations where patient potential is affected by movement between disease states – used frequently in oncology, diabetes, RA, or other markets with line of therapy dynamics.

The approach can provide considerable analytical power for assessing the impact of marketing efforts, running “what-if” scenarios, and simulating shifts in treatment paradigms. However, this level of detail
can present challenges in managing complexity, collecting robust input assumptions, and ensuring that outputs reflect the market reality.

We will present best practices for patient flow forecasting, use of patient-level data, and innovations with agent-based modelling that can support a transparent, manageable, and credible patient flow model.

 AFTERNOON: Decision Analysis

Decision Analysis (DA) is a logical quantitative approach for analyzing decision alternatives and making decisions optimally when faced with substantial uncertainty.

Decision Analysis techniques have broad application in the pharmaceutical industry - they are used to evaluate alternative clinical development strategies for pipeline compounds, to quantify the risk and value of potential business development deals, and to guide portfolio strategy and resource allocation decisions.

High quality decision analyses can help drive consensus around the best course of action to take by clearly mapping out alternatives and uncertainties (decision trees), rigorously integrating commercial and
scientific/clinical perspectives (forecasts and risk assessments), and clarifying how robust decision recommendations are to alternative assumptions (sensitivity analysis).

We will present best practices for utilizing DA techniques to drive high quality clinical development, business development, and portfolio decisions.
