Lode Dewulf studied medicine in Belgium and South Africa and graduated as General Practitioner from Leuven University, Belgium. He practiced clinical medicine for a while (including as army physician) and then joined the pharmaceutical industry in 1989 as Medical Advisor. Since then, he has been working mainly in Medical Affairs, at times also holding responsibilities in clinical development, health economics and pharmacovigilance. In 1999 he took a sabbatical and became co-founder and Chief Medical Officer of PlanetMedica, the first Healthcare internet portal in Europe. He returned to pharma a year later and held different medical and managerial roles of increasing responsibility in several companies, based in different countries in Europe, as well as in the USA. He joined UCB in 2007 and in 2009 assumed overall oversight of all Medical Affairs Activities globally, reporting to the COO. In 2012 he was named Chief Patient Affairs Officer, reporting to the CMO.
